Practical fixes when an OTP or SMS verification code does not arrive on a virtual number: timing, resends, country choice, number format, and when to cancel.
First, how OTP delivery works
When you ask an app for a code, it sends an SMS through an SMS gateway to the mobile network of your number. Delays or blocks can happen at any step. The app may decide not to send at all (risk checks), the gateway may queue the message, or the network may filter it. Most failures are on the sending side, which is why switching number or country usually fixes them.
10 fixes, in order
- Wait 60 to 120 seconds before asking again. Some services queue messages, and early resends can cancel the first code.
- Request the code only once or twice. Many apps silently stop sending after repeated requests.
- Check the number format. Choose the correct country in the app’s dropdown and paste only the local part if the country code is already filled in. A doubled +1 or +44 is a common mistake.
- Pick "SMS" as the method. If the app offers a call or an in-app code, choose SMS unless your order supports voice or FlashCall.
- Try another number. Cancel for a refund and buy again. The new number usually comes from a different batch.
- Try another country. Some services trust some regions more at different times. See choosing a country.
- Try a higher price option if offered; it is often a fresher pool with better acceptance.
- Match your location. Some apps compare your IP country with the number country. Using a number from your own country avoids that mismatch.
- Slow down. Creating several accounts quickly from one device or network triggers risk checks.
- Use a rental when the service sends codes late or more than once; a rented number keeps receiving.
When to cancel
If nothing arrives within 3 to 5 minutes after you requested it, cancel the order. On SMSFlash, cancelling before a code arrives returns the full price to your balance, and if the timer ends without a code the refund is automatic. You only pay for codes you receive.
Codes that arrive but do not work
If the app says the code is wrong, check you are entering the latest code (older ones expire), and that you did not request codes for two different numbers at once. Some apps also expire codes after 5 to 10 minutes.

Frequently asked questions
How long should I wait for an OTP code?
Most codes arrive within a minute. Wait up to 2 minutes before requesting again, and cancel after 3 to 5 minutes if nothing arrives.
Do I pay if the SMS never arrives?
No. Cancel the number for a refund to your balance, or let the timer run out and the refund happens automatically.
Why does the same app work with one country but not another?
Apps run their own risk checks and delivery routes per region, and these change often. Switching country is one of the most reliable fixes.
Can I get the code by voice call instead?
Some services and countries support voice or FlashCall verification. The order screen shows which options are available for your choice.
